This 900 year old tree is a "Loricato" or "Bosnian Pine" (Pinus leucodermis) located in the Pollino National Park in Italy. This national park is the last reserve of this rare tree species. I believe that this particular tree is known localy as "il grande vicchio".

Magestic pine tree over the lake
Poised out on a rocky point as if its job was to warn passing boaters of the danger below, this picturesque pine tree looks as if had been carefully planted and cared for over the years by a Japanese gardener on a quest to create the perfect Bonsai.
